Today, 20.11.2010, at 13.30, the Iceland Minister of Foreign Affairs Össur Skarphéðinsson will visit the company Ibercisa in Vigo. The Icelandic delegation includes the Iceland Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Negotiation of Access of Iceland to the European Union, Stefan Haukur Johannesson; the General Manager of Foreign Trade, Martin Eyjólfsson, and the Adviser of Ministerial Politics, Kristján Guy Burgess, who, accompanied by Alejandro Hernández, Consul of Iceland in the City, will visit Vigo with the aim of obtaining first hand information about the Fishing Industry.
Iceland takes years debating his possible integration in the bosom of the European Union, a decision that always has remained postponed and whose main obstacle has been precisely the fishing.

After the economic debacle suffered by the country a year ago, voices began to resurrect the debate about joining the EU in order to seek better financial stability in a global downturn. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson's new Government have given negotiations new impulse and have received the support of the Danish Presidency of the E.U.
Ibercisa has been supplying high tech equipment to the Icelandic market for more than 20 years giving the company a market share of 90 % of electrical trawl winches in that country. At this moment, the Vigo company is manufacturing the deck machinery for two of the Icelandic Owner Úthafsskip's trawlers and has recently has supplied machinery to Pesantar, for the trawler " Echizen Maru".
